February 04, 2024

NORTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. — The New Jersey City University women's bowling team wrapped up it's hosting duties for the 2023-2024 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Round Robin #2 today, Feb. 4, at Bowlero. After totaling the records from the first round robin and this weekend's second edition, the Gothic Knights will advance to the AMCC Championships in late March as the fifth seed. The Gothic Knights secured two wins out of four on the last day of action in North Bruinswick, defeating Hilbert College, 848-706, and Laroche University, 827-630, and placed in sixth after the final Round Robin of the season.

NJCU (22-32, 10-10 AMCC) finished the weekend with a 4-6 record, capturing two of their wins in the last two games of the day. Against Hilbert, the Gothic Knights totaled a team score of 848. their largest of the weekend. Senior Rebecca Hoff (Colonia, N.J., Colonia) bowled a 234 score to lead the way for the Green and Gold. Hoff finished the weekend fourth in total pins, posting a 1,807 over 10 games played.

In the final game, the Green and Gold posted some of their best scores of the weekend. Seniors Meagan Raimondo (Woodbridge, N.J., Woodbridge) and Samantha Szymanski (Sayreville, N.J., Sayreville War Memorial) bowled their best scores to lead the way for NJCU, with the former throwing a 190 and the latter throwing a 188. Freshman Sofia Ocasio (Union City, N.J., Jose Marti STEM Academy) recorded a new game high in her collegiate career, scoring 168 pins in what was a complete team effort to take the victory over the Red Hawks.

NJCU's 10-10 record over two Round Robin tournaments is good enough for a spot in the 2023-2024 AMCC Championships. The Green and Gold are the fifth seed in the six team tournament, and will travel to Pines Plaza Lanes in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to compete for the conference championship on March 22-24.
