ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The New Jersey City University men's and women's track & field teams finished up their 2023-24 indoor seasons this weekend as they both sent contingents of student-athletes to compete at the Indoor All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Championships (AARTFC) on the campus of Nazareth College on Friday and Saturday, March 1-2.
On the men's side of things, senior
Jason Garcia (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson) competed in the 60-meter dash and posted a time of 7.09 to place 26th out of 44 finishers in the preliminary race. NJCU also competed in a couple of relays. The 4x200-meter team, made up of Garcia, as well as sophomores
Juan Mercedes Cruz (El Seybo, Dominican Republic/Manville),
Pratt Charles (Jersey City, N.J./University Charter) and
Gerard Victor (Irvington, N.J./Payne Tech), placed 22nd out of 30 with a time of 1:34.36. The 4x400-meter squad, which featured Cruz, Charles, Victor and graduate student
Adnan Kpodo (Irvington, N.J./Irvington), came in 12th out of 14 teams with a time of 3:33.37.
The Gothic Knight women competed in the 4x200m and 4x400m relays, as well. The former was made up of senior captain
Ayriana Young (Jersey City, N.J./McNair Academic), juniors
Reyanna Henderson (Pemberton, N.J./Pemberton Two) and
Ashley Adames (Jersey City, N.J./County Prep) and freshman
Jezena Aponte (Jersey City, N.J./Snyder), and finished with a time of 1:51.10 to place 19th out of 25. The latter relay featured the same quartet of NJCU runners and placed 14th out of 15 with a time of 4:11.45.

NJCU closed the books on its indoor seasons this weekend. The Gothic Knights will release their 2024 outdoor schedules this coming week, kicking off action at the end of March.
