PITTSBURGH, Pa. — The New Jersey City University women's bowling team, seeded #5 in the six-team 2024 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championship this weekend, competed at Pines Plaza Lanes on Friday, March 22. The Gothic Knights took on #4-seed Penn State University-Behrend in a round one single-elimination mega match and defeated the Lions, 2-1, winning the 5-Game Baker and Best 4-of-7 Baker rounds to advance to the double elimination second round. There, NJCU took on #1 seed Saint Vincent College, but fell 2-0. The Green and Gold continue play with a win-or-go-home mega match against #3 seed Alvernia University on Saturday morning, March 23.
The Gothic Knights (30-48, 10-10 AMCC) started off Friday morning with a 10:00 a.m. single elimination mega match against PSU Behrend. NJCU fell behind early, losing 858-751 in the traditional match round. Needing a win to stay around, the Green and Gold defeated the Lions, 808-763 in the 5-Game Baker format to even things up at 1-1. Finally, the Gothic Knights eliminated PSUB from the championship by winning four rounds in the Best 4-of-7 Baker final round. With the victory, NJCU advanced to the double elimination rounds.
The Green and Gold began play in that format in the second round against top-seeded and #25-ranked Saint Vincent, but suffered the 2-0 loss at the hands of the Bearcats. With the loss, NJCU kicks things off on Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. against the #3-seeded Golden Wolves in the third round. The winner advances to the fourth round on Saturday afternoon against either Saint Vincent or #2-seed William Smith College, while the loser is eliminated from championship contention.
