April 27, 2024

EWING, N.J. — The New Jersey City University men's and women's track & field teams sent a trio of runners down to South Jersey this weekend for The Lions Invite, hosted by The College of New Jersey on Friday and Saturday, April 26-27.

Three NJCU seniors traveled down to TCNJ over the weekend. Captain Ayriana Young (Jersey City, N.J./McNair Academic) ran in the 100-meter hurdles for the first time in her career and notched a time of 15.34 to place sixth overall out of 18 runners. The time also qualifies her for the All-Atlantic Region Outdoor Track & Field Championship and was 0.69 away from breaking into the top 10 all-time in program history.

Topu Saha (Jersey City, N.J./William L. Dickinson) also ran the first-ever 3,000-meter steeplechase of his career and placed seventh overall with a time of 12:02.95. That time was just 1:07.04 away from breaking into the top four all-time at NJCU.

Finally, Jason Garcia (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson) won his heat in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.42, which placed him 13th overall in the overall event out of 67 total runners.
