JERSEY CITY, N.J. — The New Jersey City University baseball and softball programs both hosted their 2024 home finales at the Thomas M. Gerrity Athletic Complex on Monday afternoon, April 29. In the case of baseball, the Gothic Knights also conducted a pregame Senior Day ceremony, celebrating their five graduating student-athletes. However, what started out as a gorgeous, warm and sunny day quickly turned to a torrential downpour, forcing both programs to suspend play without any official decisions.
As mentioned, NJCU baseball did manage to get its Senior Day ceremony in prior to the weather suspension, as the Green and Gold bid farewell to pitcher
Ronnie Wallraff (Hillside, N.J./Hillside), first baseman/pitcher
D.J. Dekis (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan), outfielder
Bryan Fernandez (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial), catcher
Ricky Tuero (West New York, N.J./Memorial) and pitcher/infielder
Ali Pompey (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic). See below, or click the link above, for photos from the ceremony.

As far as play, the Gothic Knights took on non-conference foe Saint Elizabeth University and got through 1.2 innings before the first of several delays and eventual suspension. Though not official, the top of the first inning did start off with Wallraff recording the 100th strikeout of his collegiate career — combined between his NCAA career with NJCU, as well as his time at the NJCAA level with Union County College.
As for softball, the Gothic Knights made it into the bottom of the fourth inning of game one of their home finale doubleheader against non-conference foe Centenary University before the rain put an end to the afternoon. However, unlike NJCU baseball — their season has officially come to a close as today was their regular-season finale — the Green and Gold softball squad is still scheduled for one more doubleheader tomorrow afternoon, Tuesday, April 30, beginning at 3:00 p.m. against Lehman College in the Bronx (should the weather hold up).
