BRONXVILLE, N.J. — The New Jersey City University women's volleyball program hit the road for the first time in the 2024 season tonight, Monday, Sept. 2, for a non-conference affair at Sarah Lawrence College. Three Gothic Knights had at least six kills and a pair notched double-digit digs, but NJCU unfortunately fell to the Gryphons in four sets (25-20, 10-25, 18-25, 11-25).
Offensively, senior captain outside hitter
Brenda Gonzalez (Union City, N.J./Dickinson) notched seven kills to go with three aces, three blocks and 12 digs for a nice all-around match for the Green and Gold (1-2). Sophomore middle blocker
Brianna Melanson (South Brunswick, N.J./South Brunswick) was extremely efficient against Sarah Lawrence (2-1), registered six kills and no errors on 15 swings (.400 hitting percentage) to go with two blocks of her own. Junior outside
Marina Millett (Matawan, N.J./Saint John Vianney) also had six kills to go with six digs and a couple of aces.
Defensively, sophomore libero
Jenilsa Pichardo (Union City, N.J./Union City) registered her second consecutive double-digit dig performance with 10, adding three aces, while rookie setter
Keyanni Overstreet (Port Aurther, Texas/Sabine Pass) dished out 18 assists to go with eight digs. Sophomore libero
Carly Everett (York, Pa./York Catholic) also tallied eight digs and an ace.

The Gothic Knights will now take four days to regroup and recharge before returning to the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center (JMAC) for their second and final home non-conference tri-match of the season on Saturday, Sept. 7. NJCU will host FDU-Florham at 10:00 a.m. and then take on Bryn Mawr College at 2:00 p.m. The two neutral teams are set to square off at 12:00 p.m.
