JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The New Jersey City University women's soccer team dominated Lehman 10-0 on Saturday, Sept. 21, at Robert L. McNulty Memorial Soccer Field, marking their second consecutive shutout.
The Green and Gold (3-0-3) showcased their offensive prowess, outshooting the Lightning (2-2) 48-1, including 25 shots on target. Sophomore forward
Arianna Chavez (Roselle Park, N.J./Academy for Allied Health Sciences) and fifth-year midfielder
Kim Brites (Carteret, N.J./Carteret) were standouts, combining for seven goals; Chavez scored four and Brites added three, both leading the team with five goals this season.

Sabrina Duarte (Union, N.J./Benedictine Academy), junior
Lorraine Valenzuela (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne), and freshman
Douaa Belfki (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen) all played double-digit minutes in goal. Duarte made her first save of the season on the only Lehman shot of the match, while Villanueva made her season debut and Belfki made her collegiate debut, showcasing the team's depth in the net.
The scoring started early, with freshman forward Gabrielle Cardona's fifth-minute cross finding junior forward
Ari Flores-Ortiz (Little Falls, N.J./Passaic Valley Regional), whose header set up fifth-year midfielder
Shea Ramirez (Bogota, N.J./Immaculate Conception) for a quick strike. Just four minutes later, Flores-Ortiz scored herself, putting NJCU ahead 2-0.
In the 26th minute, after a blocked shot from Flores-Ortiz, junior midfielder
Nyrohah Alvarenga (North Bergen, N.J./High Tech) capitalized, scoring the third goal. Senior back
Katie Kelly (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) intercepted a goal kick in the 29th minute, assisting Chavez for her first goal of the day. Chavez added another shortly after, and Brites tapped in a pass from
Sarah Reyes (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield), making it 6-0 before halftime.
The second half continued with NJCU's dominance. Brites scored twice in quick succession, capitalizing on rebounds to complete her hat trick. In the 63rd minute, Chavez tallied her fourth goal of the match. The game was called after 70 minutes, sealing the 10-0 victory.
