Women's Basketball Snaps Seven Game Losing Skid With 71-54 Win Over Rutgers-Camden

CAMDEN, NJ - The New Jersey City University women's basketball team snapped its seven-game losing streak with a 71-54 win over Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday, January 15.

NJCU (4-10, 3-5) had four players tally double digits with Destiny Battle (East Orange, N.J./East Orange STEM Academy) leading the charge (17). Battle also added a team-high eight assists while Kendra Rigo (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) paced the team with eight rebounds and 15 points. Tahirah Kelley (Linden, N.J./Immaculate Conception) and Autumn John (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) added 12 and 10 points, respectively. Rutgers-Camden (6-9, 2-6) was led by Taylor Hinson who tallied a game-high 21 points.

The Gothic Knights opened the game on a 12-3 run behind buckets from Rigo, Battle, and Kelley. The Scarlet Raptors' offense eventually found its stride, however, NJCU kept chugging along and carried an eight-point lead into the second stanza.

In the second quarter, the Gothic Knights remained stout offensively, scoring 18 points, their second-highest tally of the game. During their seven-game losing skid, the second quarter was NJCU's crux, however, a three-point basket by Na'Tori Postell kept NJCU's offense on the right path. John converted a layup to give the Gothic Knights their largest lead of the half (16) before Rutgers-Camden eventually cut it down to eight once again. Olivia Wooten (East Orange, N.J./Immaculate Conception), however, would ensure the Gothic Knights took a double-digit lead into the locker room with a point from the charity stripe.

The third quarter saw the Gothic Knights' highest output of the game with 21 points. NJCU slowly expanded its lead and eventually pushed it out to 16 via an 11-4 run capped by a jumper by Kelley. From there, the momentum remained in NJCU's corner as they cruised through the fourth quarter to their third NJAC win of the season.
