Women's Wrestling Participates in the Western New England Duals

SPRINGFIELD, MA - The New Jersey City University women's wrestling team participated in the Western New England Duals on Sunday, January 26 against Western New England, New England College, and Centenary University. 

Match 1: Western New England 40, NJCU 10

The match began with the Gothic Knights behind the sticks as they had to forfeit at 103. #7/10 ranked Izabella Frezzo (East Rutherford, N.J./Becton Regional) responded with a technical fall, giving NJCU four points. Hailey Beck (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape Regional) briefly gave the Gothic Knights the lead with a pin for five points, putting NJCU ahead 9-6. Valarie Maldonado picked up a point in her match, however, she ultimately fell 4-1. Her point marked the last points the Gothic Knights picked up for the remainder of the match. 

Match 2: New England College 24, NJCU 20

Frezzo tied the match up at five after she picked up a free win. Nuria Kojic (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) kept NJCU ahead with a fall, putting the Gothic Knights ahead 10-9. A fall and a pair of forfeits set NJCU back 15 points before Citlaly Condado pinned Karime Carmarena-Tejeda for five points. Fabiana Jose picked up a win at 180 before a double forfeit ended the match in favor of NEC. 

Match 3: NJCU 29, Centenary 10

Sophia Garcia (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) toppled Elizabeth Galladay in a tech fall at 117 giving NJCU a 9-0 lead. The remainder of the matches were decided by forfeits to give NJCU a 1-2 record on the day.
