Men's Soccer Wraps Up Season with 3-1 Road Loss to William Paterson

WAYNE, NJ | The New Jersey City University (NJCU) men's soccer team closed out its 2025 season with a 3-1 setback to William Paterson University in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play on Wednesday night at Pioneer Soccer Park.

NJCU registered eight shots, six of which were on target, while the Pioneers totaled 11 shots and seven on goal. Both teams committed 10 or more fouls in a competitive conference matchup that also featured a yellow card apiece. Goalkeeper Dominic Cunha (Rahway, N.J./Rahway) recorded four saves for the Gothic Knights, including three in the second half, while William Paterson's Luca Misko tallied five stops before being relieved late in the match by Francisco Apolo.

William Paterson (8-7-3, 4-3-2 NJAC) built an early two-goal cushion behind tallies from Jonathan Antonio and Seydou Camara in the first half, before adding a third in the 57th minute to seal the win. NJCU (4-11-4, 1-6-2 NJAC) cut into the deficit midway through the second half when Kenneth Valladares (Union City, N.J./Union City) scored his fifth goal of the season off an assist from Gagan Dhillon (Jersey City, N.J./Snyder).

The Pioneers wasted little time striking first, as Antonio opened the scoring in the fifth minute with help from Camara. The Gothic Knights looked to respond, but a disciplined William Paterson defense held firm. Camara doubled the advantage in the 22nd minute, finishing a feed from Adrian Qira to give the hosts a 2-0 halftime lead.

Camara continued his strong performance with his second goal of the night in the 58th minute to extend the Pioneers' lead to three. NJCU found its offensive rhythm shortly after, earning a corner that led to Valladares' rebound finish from close range in the 68th minute. Despite maintaining pressure late, the Gothic Knights were unable to close the gap further.
