GALLOWAY, N.J. — The New Jersey City University (NJCU) men's soccer team suffered a tough setback in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) action on Saturday afternoon, falling 6-0 to Stockton University at G. Larry James Stadium. It marked NJCU's heaviest defeat of the 2025 season and the most goals allowed since a matching 6-0 loss to the same Stockton side in 2024.
The Ospreys controlled the tempo from start to finish, outshooting the Gothic Knights 20-1 overall and 12-0 in shots on goal. Stockton also led in corner kicks by an 8-3 margin, while NJCU was whistled for 12 fouls compared to Stockton's seven.
Stockton broke through early in the 16th minute with a goal from Uche Wokocha, who slotted home the Ospreys' first shot on target. NJCU's only chance of the day came just seven minutes later in the 23rd minute, when sophomore Max Bzuikiewicz sent a shot high over the crossbar — the team's lone attempt on the day.
Junior goalkeeper Camilo Pascual Verdu made a pair of saves in the 24th and 26th minutes to keep the scoreline at 1-0 temporarily, but Stockton's pressure paid off again in the closing stages of the first half. Joseph A. Carbone doubled the lead in the 38th minute, and just before halftime, Chris Krall added a third in the 45th minute, sending NJCU into the break trailing 3-0.
In the second half, Stockton showed no signs of slowing down. The Ospreys added a fourth goal in the 52nd minute when Dawson Joseph connected and William Lynch made it 5-0 in the 61st minute. Shortly after that goal, NJCU made a change in goal, with sophomore
Dominic Cunha (Rahway, N.J./Rahway) replacing Pascual Verdu after 65 minutes of play.
Cunha recorded a pair of saves in the 75th and 76th minutes before conceding the final goal of the afternoon to Aiden Hoenisch in the 78th minute. Cunha would add one more save in the 80th minute to finish the match with three stops in total. In all, the two NJCU goalkeepers combined for six saves in the loss.
Despite the difficult outing, NJCU gave minutes to 29 different players as the coaching staff looked to rotate the squad. However, the offensive drought continued to be a concern, with the Gothic Knights held to just one shot in a match for the first time in five seasons — the last coming in a 2020 meeting with Montclair State.
With the loss, NJCU drops to 4-7-2 on the season and 1-2 in NJAC play. Stockton improves to 7-2-3 overall and remains unbeaten in conference action at 2-0-1.
