Men's Wrestling Downs Kean, 33-16

UNION, NJ | The New Jersey City University (NJCU) men's wrestling team defeated Kean University, 33-16, on Friday night at the Harwood Arena.

NJCU opened the dual in explosive fashion, racing out to a 30-0 lead before Kean managed to get on the board. The Gothic Knights collected four pins, a tech fall, and a major decision across the opening six bouts to take full control of the match.

At 125 pounds, Dominic Terracciano (Keansburg, N.J./Keansburg) set the tone with a first-period fall over DeMarzo, giving NJCU its first six points of the night. Lucas Torre (Point Pleasant, N.J./Brick Memorial) followed at 133 with a 14-2 major decision over Donato, extending the lead to 10-0.

The momentum continued at 141, where Dean Costantino (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) overwhelmed Marghany for a 16-1 tech fall with 40 seconds left in the period. NJCU's surge kept rolling at 149 as Andy Beras (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) secured another first-period pin, pushing the advantage to 21-0.

The Gothic Knights capped their perfect start at 157 when Zack Vera (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) delivered a pin with just nine seconds remaining in the opening period, stretching the lead to 27-0. Zahier Chiles (Newark, N.J./St. Benedict's Prepratory) added a hard-fought 13-8 decision at 165 to make it 30-0 and reinforce NJCU's early dominance.

Kean broke through at 174 as Monahan earned a first-period pin, trimming the deficit to 30-6. Travinsky added a 10-1 major decision at 184, and the Cougars picked up another six points at 197 via forfeit to make it 30-16.

Heavyweight Simeon Hunte (Burlington Township, N.J./Burlington Township) closed out the night for NJCU with an 8-3 decision over Pasquale at 285 pounds, sealing the 33-16 victory.
