Women's Basketball Drops Non-Conference Game to #1 NYU

NEW YORK, NY | The New Jersey City University women's basketball team fell to NYU, 112-40, in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon at the John A. Paulson Center.

NJCU (0-2), Na'Tori Postell led the team with 12 points, while Autumn John (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) posted 9 points and 9 rebounds in 38 minutes. Jhava Wilson (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Central) added 8 points, 4 steals, and 3 assists in 32 minutes. The Gothic Knights shot 24.6% (14-of-57) from the field, went 0-of-6 from beyond the arc, and committed 39 turnovers, which NYU converted into 47 points. NYU (3-0) was led by Aila Kaibara, who led all scorers with 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting, including 5-of-9 from three-point range. Caroline Peper contributed 14 points, four steals, and two blocks, while Olivia Lagao added 12 points and three assists. Sofia Corral recorded 11 points, six assists, and five steals off the bench. NYU's reserves outscored NJCU's bench 55-9, with 14 Violets entering the scoring column.

The Violets jumped out to a 33-8 lead after the first quarter, fueled by sharp perimeter shooting and aggressive defense that forced NJCU into early mistakes. Aila Kaibara set the tone with multiple three-pointers in the period, helping NYU build a cushion.

The second quarter saw the Violets continue their efficient offense, adding 24 points while holding the Gothic Knights to just nine. Caroline Peper and Brooke Batchelor contributed key baskets in transition, capitalizing on NJCU turnovers to extend the lead to 57-17 at halftime.

Na'Tori Postell and Autumn John (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) sparked the Gothic Knights, combining for several drives to the basket in the third. However, NYU responded with a 34-point outburst, including strong interior play from Megan Ohonde and continued hot shooting from beyond the arc.

In the final period, NJCU managed its highest-scoring quarter with 14 points, highlighted by Jhava Wilson's (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Central) contributions in the backcourt and a pair of late layups from John.
