NJCU Falls on the Road at Stevens Despite 25-Point Night From Rogers-Robinson

HOBOKEN, NJ | New Jersey City University (NJCU) men's basketball dropped a non-conference bout to Stevens, 84-69, on Wednesday night at the Canavan Arena. The all-time record moves to 8-5 with the advantage to NJCU despite the last three decisions going in favor of Stevens.

NJCU (2-2) was led by Bakhi Rogers-Robinson (Orange, N.J./West Caldwell Tech), who led all scorers with 25 points on 10-of-20 shooting, adding five free throws and a pair of rebounds in 35 minutes. Jayden Brown (Teaneck, N.J./Immaculate Conception) reached double figures as well, finishing with 10 points, four steals and two boards, while Arterio Williams (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton West) provided efficient scoring off the bench with 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting. NJCU placed four players with at least seven points and showed balanced scoring in both halves, posting 34 points in the first and 35 in the second. Stevens (3-0) had five players score 12 points or more in the win, led by Tommy Scholl, Kyle Maddison, Harmehar Chhabra who each scored 16 points.

NJCU hung tight early, trading baskets through the opening minutes. The Gothic Knights trailed just 14–10 before Stevens used a series of threes and transition plays to push its lead into double digits midway through the first half. A late NJCU push, sparked by Isaiah Green (Orange, N.J./Hillside), who totaled eight points, two rebounds, a block and a steal, helped cut the deficit before the break, but the Ducks carried a 44–34 advantage into halftime.

Stevens continued to rely on its perimeter attack, finishing with 12 made three-pointers, while NJCU worked inside, outscoring the Ducks 44–26 in the paint. Donovan Crawford (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) anchored the interior defensively, adding seven rebounds, two blocks and four points, and Raymond Ezike (Newark, N.J./Westside) contributed four points, four boards and a block.

The Gothic Knights opened the second half with momentum, as Rogers-Robinson knocked down a jumper to trim the margin to eight. NJCU continued to chip away, pulling within 46–40 after another mid-range finish from the junior guard. But each time NJCU threatened, the Ducks responded from deep. Stevens went 6-of-14 from long range in the second period and sealed the result with timely free throws down the stretch.
