JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The New Jersey City University (NJCU) women's wrestling team went 2–1 at their home quad meet on Saturday, Nov. 22, at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center. The Gothic Knights earned wins over Alvernia (24–23) and Utica (43–5) and fell to Frostburg State (38–11). This marked their first dual action of the 2025–26 season following their earlier appearance at an open tournament.
NJCU 43, Utica 5
NJCU opened the day with a dominant performance, rolling to a 43–5 victory over Utica. The Gothic Knights collected 15 early points via forfeits at 103, 110, and 117 pounds. At 124 pounds, sophomore
Nuria Kojic (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) delivered a quick pin in just one minute. NJCU added another forfeit win at 131 pounds.
Freshman
Natalie Lozano (Bronx, N.Y./Herbert H. Lehman) kept the momentum going at 138 pounds with a 10–0 technical fall in 1:36. Utica earned its lone five points on a forfeit at 145 pounds. NJCU responded with another forfeit at 160 pounds before
Apryl Coffman (Sayreville, N.J./St. Thomas Aquinas) (180 lbs.) secured a 20-second pin to extend the lead to 39–5. Freshman
Izabella Luna (Belleville, N.J./Belleville) (207 lbs.) capped the match with a 10–0 technical fall in 1:50.
NJCU 24, Alvernia 23
The Knights' second match proved far more competitive. Freshman
Aracelli Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y./Harry S. Truman) (103 lbs.) opened the dual with a 3:14 pin. After NJCU dropped the 110-pound matchup, sophomore
Hailey Beck (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape Regional) (117 lbs.) responded with a 1:30 pin. Kojic added a 9–0 decision at 124 pounds to maintain the advantage.
Alvernia closed the gap with a fall at 131 pounds, cutting the lead to 13–10. Lozano delivered again at 138 pounds, recording her second win of the day with a 1:02 pin. However, a forfeit at 145 and a decision and pin at 160 and 180 pounds allowed Alvernia to take its first lead, 23–19.
With the dual on the line, Luna (207 lbs.) stepped up and secured the victory for NJCU with a 26-second pin, completing the comeback for a 24–23 final.
Frostburg State 38, NJCU 11
NJCU opened the match with a forfeit win at 103 pounds, but Frostburg State responded by taking control with back-to-back pins at 110 and 117 pounds. Kojic gathered one team point for the Knights in a 10–4 decision loss at 124 pounds, making it 13–6.
Frostburg State then pushed its lead with a pair of pins and a forfeit, stretching the advantage to 28–6. At 160 pounds,
Tehana Savory (Queens, N.Y./Brooklyn Technical) provided a highlight for the Knights with a 21-second pin. Frostburg State, however, closed out the dual with two more pins to finish their day unbeaten.
