Strong Starts from Josa and Savory Highlight Women’s Wrestling Season Opener

EAST STROUDSBURG, PA. — The New Jersey City University (NJCU) women's wrestling team launched its 2025-26 campaign on Sunday, Nov. 2 at the East Stroudsburg University Open, hosted inside Koehler Fieldhouse. Competing in a deep 32-team field, the Gothic Knights finished tied for 21st overall, led by standout efforts from junior Fabiana Josa (Southampton, Pa./International Christian School) and freshman Tehana Savory (Queens, N.Y./Brooklyn Technical).

Fabiana Josa (Southampton, Pa./International Christian School) (180 lbs) turned in the best result of the day for NJCU, finishing with an impressive 4-2 record. The junior opened with a 2:57 pin in the round of 32, then battled back through the consolation bracket after a narrow loss. She defeated teammate Apryl Coffman (Sayreville, N.J./St. Thomas Aquinas) in a 6-4 decision, followed with a 2:04 pin, and dominated another opponent with a 10-0 technical superiority victory (VSU).

Tehana Savory (Queens, N.Y./Brooklyn Technical) (160 lbs) followed closely behind, also posting a 3-2 record in her collegiate debut. Savory opened with a commanding 10-0 VSU in just 3:28, then pinned her opponent in 1:47 in the round of 16. After a loss in the quarterfinals, she rebounded with another pin in 1:48 in the consolation of eight round.

Hailey Beck (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape Regional) (117 lbs) also had a strong outing, going 2-2 on the day. The sophomore advanced to the quarterfinals with back-to-back decision wins — 13-6 and 14-12 — before being eliminated in the later rounds. Katie Bello (Passaic, N.J./Passaic County Technical Institute) (117 lbs) and Mackenzie Finn (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) (124 lbs) each competed hard in their respective divisions but were unable to secure wins, both finishing 0-2 on the day.

Aracelli Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y./Harry S. Truman) (103 lbs) earned her first collegiate victory with an impressive 1:14 pin in the consolation bracket. The freshman showed resilience after an opening-round loss by technical superiority, finishing the day 1-2 overall.

Natalie Lozano (Bronx, N.Y./Herbert H. Lehman) (138 lbs) joined Rodriguez in earning her first career win, pinning her opponent in 1:17 in the round of 32 before being eliminated in later rounds to close 1-2 in her debut.

Nuria Kojic (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) (124 lbs) started strong, collecting a 51-second pin in her opening match. She dropped her next two bouts to finish 1-2.

Apryl Coffman (Sayreville, N.J./St. Thomas Aquinas) (180 lbs) also notched a win on the day, securing a 1:21 pin in her first consolation bout before finishing 1-2 overall. Izabella Luna (Belleville, N.J./Belleville) (180 lbs) opened her college career with a 27-second pin in the consolation of 16 round, ending her day 1-2 after a tough bracket run.

Marielys Lugo-Fernandez (103 lbs), Dyanne Pelaez-Ordonez (Fords, N.J./Woodbridge) (117 lbs), Gabrielle Miller (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) (145 lbs), and Khristie Torres (Lodi, N.J./Lodi) (160 lbs) also represented the Gothic Knights at the ESU Open.
