November 09, 2025

ADRIAN, MICH. — The New Jersey City University (NJCU) women's wrestling team turned in a strong collective performance at the Adrian College Women's Invitational B brackets on Sunday, Nov. 9, held at the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center.

Leading the way for NJCU was junior Gabrielle Miller (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge), who delivered an impressive run in the 145-pound bracket, ultimately finishing in fifth place. Miller opened her day with a commanding 12-0 technical fall victory in just 1:31, setting the tone for her performance. After dropping her second bout, she rebounded quickly with a pin in 1:12 (6-0) and continued her momentum by pinning her next opponent in 1:26 (6-0). Miller's dominant streak continued as she earned a 10-0 technical fall in 2:25 and another pin in 1:30 (4-2), extending her record on the day to 5-1. She later dropped a hard-fought 10-4 decision before reaching her seventh-match limit, resulting in her final contest being ruled a no contest. Despite that, Miller's outstanding performance secured her the fifth-place finish in the 145B bracket.

In the 124-pound bracket, Nuria Kojic (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) battled through a series of tough matchups to finish the day with a solid 3-2 record. Kojic began her tournament with an impressive comeback victory, rallying from a 10-8 deficit to secure a fall at 4:22. Although she lost her next bout, she quickly responded with another pin in 2:58 (5-4) and carried that momentum into her next match, earning a 14-4 technical fall in 4:27. Her run came to an end in the following round.

Junior Fabiana Josa (Southampton, Pa./International Christian School) also turned in a competitive showing in the 180-pound bracket. Josa started strong, opening her day with a 27-second pin (4-0) before advancing by forfeit in her second matchup to start 2-0. She finished the Invitational with a 2-2 record, dropping her next two bouts.

Freshman Marielys Lugo-Fernandez gained valuable experience in the 103-pound bracket, finishing 1-2 on the day. Her lone victory came in dominant fashion, as she earned a 10-0 technical fall in just 52 seconds. In the 110-pound bracket, senior Dyanne Pelaez battled hard through two matches, though she finished 0-2 on the day. Similarly, sophomore Hailey Beck (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape Regional) competed in the 117-pound division, where she faced tough opposition and also ended the tournament with an 0-2 record.
