Women’s Wrestling Competes at North Central College Invitational

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — The New Jersey City University (NJCU) women's wrestling team competed at the North Central College Invitational on Sunday, Dec. 14, held at the Wilde Res/Rec Center. The Gothic Knights all competed in the B bracket and finished 34th out of 36 teams in a competitive field. Host North Central College claimed the team title with 139 points, while the University of Providence's Erin Hijiki (103 pounds) was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler.

Freshman Aracelli Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y./Harry S. Truman) (8-6) represented NJCU at 103 pounds and finished the day with a 2–2 record with a fifth-place finish in the B bracket. She opened her tournament with an impressive pin at 2:12 while holding an 8–0 lead. Rodriguez closed her day with a decision victory over teammate Marielys Lugo Fernandez (Bronx, N.Y./Mott Hall Bronx).

Lugo Fernandez (3-10) also competed at 103 pounds and finished 2–3 overall with a sixth-place finish in the B bracket. After dropping her opening bout, she responded with a dramatic comeback, earning a fall at 3:46 despite trailing 8–6. She continued her strong rebound by recording a 10–0 technical fall in just 56 seconds in her next match.

At 110 pounds, senior Dyanne Pelaez-Ordonez (Fords, N.J./Woodbridge) (0-7) battled through a challenging draw and finished 0–3 on the day. She placed sixth in the B bracket. Sophomore Hailey Beck (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape Regional) (5-9) competed at 117 pounds and opened her tournament in dominant fashion with a 10–0 technical fall in just 35 seconds. Beck concluded her day with a 1–2 record.

Sophomore Nuria Kojic (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) (11-9) represented the Gothic Knights at 124 pounds, finishing 1–2 overall. Her lone victory came in her second bout, where she secured a pin at the 5:30 mark after trailing 5–4.

Senior Fabiana Josa (Southampton, Pa./International Christian School) (9-10) competed at 180 pounds and posted a 2–2 record. She earned a pin at 1:04 while leading 4–0 and followed that performance with a strong 7–1 decision victory in her third matchup.
