Men's Basketball Extends Win Streak to Six With 20-Point Win Over Delaware Valley

NEW BRITAIN, PA | The New Jersey City University (NJCU) men's basketball team improved to 8-2 overall with a convincing 71-51 road victory over Delaware Valley University on Wednesday, December 17, at the James Work Gymnasium.

The Gothic Knights (8-2) shot 39% from the field, and 80.0 percent (16-20) at the line. Bakhi Rogers-Robinson (Orange, N.J./West Caldwell Tech) led NJCU with 17 points on 5-of-14 shooting, including 6-of-6 from the line and a three-pointer, while adding two rebounds and two steals. Donovan Crawford (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) dominated the glass with a game-high nine rebounds (seven offensive) to go along with nine points, four steals, and a block. Marc Brown, Jr. (Union, N.J./Essex County Newark Tech) contributed nine points, and Jayden Brown (Teaneck, N.J./Immaculate Conception) dished out a team-high five assists with eight points and two steals. Brince Shelton (Brooklyn, N.Y./George Westinghouse) added five points and six rebounds.

NJCU dominated key areas, including points off turnovers (22-7), second-chance points (16-6), points in the paint (34-18), and rebounds (45-34), while the Aggies held a slight edge in fast-break points (16-15) and bench scoring (26-25).

Delaware Valley (4-5) finished at 33% overall, and 52.2 percent (12-23) from the stripe. For Delaware Valley, Antonio Redding and Jeremiah Lee each scored 10 points, with Redding hitting two threes and Lee adding four rebounds. Mike Herrin chipped in nine points, and JT Wright also had nine, including two threes.

NJCU jumped out early, using strong rebounding and defensive pressure to force turnovers and build a double-digit lead in the first half. Crawford's tip-in and multiple offensive rebounds fueled the Gothic Knights' attack, while Rogers-Robinson and Brown provided timely scoring. The visitors closed the opening period on a strong note, taking a 37-23 advantage into the break.

In the second half, Delaware Valley made pushes with threes from Lee and Brendon Bradford, cutting the deficit at times, but NJCU responded with dominant scoring from inside the paint. The Gothic Knights also tallied 25 bench points tonight, highlighted by Darnell Derosin (Linden, N.J./Linden) (four points, five rebounds) and Leon Lawson (Rahway, N.J./Rahway) (four points), who helped maintain the margin. Late free throws from Mekhi Philogene (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bright School) sealed the 20-point win as the Gothic Knights pulled away for the non-conference win.
