Men's Wrestling Rolls Past Keystone, Improves to 8–1

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The New Jersey City University (NJCU) men's wrestling team delivered a dominant performance on Thursday, Dec. 4, rolling past Keystone College with a 53–3 victory at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center. With the win, the Gothic Knights improved to 8–1 on the season, while the Giants fell to 0–6.

Freshman Kyle Figueroa (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) (1–0) opened the night at 125 pounds, putting NJCU on the board with a forfeit victory. Senior Lucas Torre (Point Pleasant, N.J./Brick Memorial) (11–2) followed with authority at 133 pounds, recording the fastest pin of the evening in just 1:20 — his fourth fall of the season — to push the lead to 12–0. The momentum continued at 141 pounds, where Andy Beras (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) (4–2) secured another six points via forfeit, extending the Gothic Knight advantage to 18–0.

At 149 pounds, senior standout Zach Vera (14–2) added to the surge, earning a pin in 4:27 for his 12th win of the season at 149. Freshman Sebastian Romero (Newark, N.J./East Side) (1–2) broke through for his first victory at 157 pounds, dominating with a 19–2 technical fall in 4:23. The run continued as freshman Zahier Chiles (Newark, N.J./St. Benedict's Prepratory) (9–4) delivered his first pin of the year at 165 pounds, sticking his opponent in 1:54 to make it 35–0.

Sophomore Diego Viera (Belleville, N.J./Belleville) tacked on another forfeit win at 174 pounds — his fourth at the weight class and sixth overall — stretching the lead to 41–0. At 184 pounds, junior William Chrysler (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) (3–5) earned his first pin of the season, finishing his match in 2:39 to put NJCU ahead 47–0.

Keystone broke through at 197 pounds with a hard-fought 10–8 decision, trimming the deficit to 47–3. NJCU closed out the night the same way it began — with a forfeit victory — as heavyweight Walter Thomas (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood) (1–0) claimed his first win of the year to seal the commanding 53–3 final.
