Women's Wrestling Shines on Senior Night with 34-10 Win Over Felician at Garden State Collegiate Duals

Jersey City, N.J. – The New Jersey City University (NJCU) women's wrestling team celebrated Senior Night with a dominant 34-10 victory over Felician at the inaugural Garden State Collegiate Duals on Saturday, Feb. 15 at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center.

The contest began with senior Izabella Frezzo (East Rutherford, N.J./Becton Regional) (24-3) earning an early lead for the Gothic Knights with a win by forfeit in the 110-pound matchup. This forfeit victory gave NJCU their first points of the match, but Felician quickly responded by winning the 117-pound bout. Freshman Nuria Kojic (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) (10-12) fought hard but fell short in her matchup, bringing the score to a tied 5-5.

However, NJCU regained the advantage in the 124-pound bout, where freshman Hailey Beck (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape Regional) (5-4) impressed with a stellar performance. Beck pinned her opponent in 5:35.6, marking her fourth pin of the season, and giving NJCU an 8-5 lead. Following Beck's victory, senior Bella Serrano (Belmar, N.J./Manasquan) (10-10) continued the momentum in the 131-pound division, delivering a dominant 10-0 technical fall in just over three minutes. This was her fifth technical fall of the season, and it further expanded the Gothic Knights' lead.

In the 138-pound matchup, senior Kayla Zeppetelli (Little Ferry, N.J./Ridgefield Park) (13-8) further solidified NJCU's dominance with a pin of her opponent in just 55 seconds. This victory, her fourth pin of the season, put NJCU ahead 19-5. Senior Claire Daity (Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfield) (3-10) added another win for NJCU in the 145-pound weight class, as she received a forfeit victory.

The Gothic Knights continued their strong performance in the 160-pound match, where junior Fabiana Josa (Churchville, Pa./International Christian School) (13-8) pinned her opponent in a quick 44 seconds, marking her ninth fall of the season. Josa's win pushed NJCU's lead to an overwhelming 29-5. Finally, in the 180-pound bout, freshman Navaya Ramos (2-2) capped off the dominant performance with a forfeit win, bringing the score to 34-5 in favor of NJCU.

Felician's final points came with a forfeit win in the 207-pound matchup, which ultimately concluded the dual at a 34-10 result in NJCU's favor.
