Matute and De Souza Shine in Skyline Men's Volleyball Honors

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Gothic Knights have been dominating, with two standout performances earning them Skyline Conference honors for the week of Feb. 10-16. Freshman libero Anthony Matute (Passaic, N.J./Passaic Charter) was named Libero of the Week, while junior outside hitter Victor De Souza (Newark, N.J./Newark East Side) earned Co-Player of the Week honors alongside Purchase's Tyler Ryan.

Both players played pivotal roles in NJCU's impressive 3-0 week. In their dominant sweep over Saint Elizabeth, Matute anchored the defense with seven digs and an assist, while De Souza contributed three blocks and five kills with a .417 hitting percentage.

The duo continued their strong performances in a sweep of King's (Pa.), where De Souza delivered a career-high 11 kills with a .409 hitting percentage, four digs, and two blocks. Meanwhile, Matute recorded a game-high 12 digs.

In their final sweep of the week against Dean, De Souza posted a stellar .636 hitting percentage, racking up seven kills on just 11 attempts, alongside three blocks. Matute added four digs to his strong defensive tally.

Over the course of the week, De Souza totaled 23 kills, eight blocks, and six digs, while Matute registered 23 digs, a kill, and an assist. This marks Matute's first Skyline honor, while De Souza's recognition as Player of the Week is a first, after previously making the Skyline Weekly Honor Roll.

The Gothic Knights gear up for Saturday, Feb. 22, as they kick off their Skyline Conference season with a doubleheader against Ramapo and Manhattanville. The action will start at 11:00 a.m. against the Roadrunners, followed by a matchup with the Manhattanville Valiants at 1:00 p.m.
