Baseball Drops Non-Conference Bout to Marywood, 20-6

SCRANTON, PA - Garrett Allo (Monroe, N.J./East Brunswick Tech) tied his career-high with four hits in the 20-6 loss to Marywood on Thursday, March 20.

NJCU (7-4-1) dropped its third game out of the last four despite scattering 13 hits. Allo also led the team with 3 RBI while Jeremy Ricourt (Perth Amboy, N.J./JFK Memorial) (2-for-3), Brandon Piacenza (Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfield) (2-for-4, 1 RBI), and Enrique Beltra (Monroe, N.J./Ranney) (2-for-4) all secured two hits a piece. Will McChesney (Kearny, N.J./Kearny) (1-2) tossed 0.1 innings and allowed five runs, four earned, on four hits. Marywood (6-6) tallied 21 hits and scored 20 runs in the win. Michak (4-for-6, 4 RBI), Gatchalai (4-for-7, 3 RBI), and Ginsberg (4-for-6) all finished with four hits.

An RBI double by Allo put the Gothic Knights on the board early, plating Ricourt in the top of the first after he reached via a lead-off single. NJCU held onto that lead until the bottom of the second when Marywood opened its scoring ledger with two runs backed by an error.

The Gothic Knights overtook Marywood in the top of the third after they scored three runs. Ricourt was once again the first Gothic Knight to the bases with a one-out single and was quickly advanced to third by an Arian Lunar (Caracas, Venezuela/Elizabeth) single. Allo scored Ricourt with an RBI double after Lunar got picked off at first. Allo wouldn't have to wait long to return to the dugout as Piacenza brought him home with an RBI single to right center. Dom Yarson (Ewing, N.J./Ewing), coming off of a career game, got in on the action with an RBI single to center field to bring home Beltra.

The bottom of the third was where things took a turn for the worst for the Gothic Knights as Marywood plated six runs with six hits and an error. Marywood extended its run streak to three innings with another pair in the bottom of the fourth.

NJCU added a solo run in the fifth before Marywood exploded for 10 runs over the final three innings to close out the game.
