TCNJ Sweeps NJCU in NJAC Doubleheader

EWING, NJ - The New Jersey City University (NJCU) baseball program suffered a pair of New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) losses to The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) on Sunday, April 13.

Game 1: TCNJ 17, NJCU 0

NJCU (10-16-1, 1-8) tallied five hits in the loss. Justin Moreno (Brooklyn, N.Y./Trenton Catholic) led the Gothic Knights with two hits while Garrett Allo (Monroe, N.J./East Brunswick Tech), Jeffrey Osborne (Spotswood, N.J./Spotswood), and John Abrahamsen (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township) all added a hit. TCNJ (18-10, 7-2) scattered 18 hits and scored 17 runs in the opening game. Marcario led the Lions going 4-for-4 with 5 RBIs.

After two scoreless innings to start the game, the Lions plated their first runs in the top of the third. Two RBI singles scored the first two runs before a two-run homer closed out the inning. TCNJ continued scoring in the next inning, scoring three more runs to improve their lead to 7-0 over the Gothic Knights. Over the final two innings of play, the Lions added six more runs to secure the win.

NJCU had its best opportunity to break the shutout in the seventh when Justin Moreno (Brooklyn, N.Y./Trenton Catholic) found his way over to third. Unfortunately for the Gothic Knights, the inning ended shortly after he arrived on third via a strikeout.

Game 2: TCNJ 12, NJCU 0

NJCU (10-17-1, 1-9) was held to two hits in the second game of the day. Shawn Kish (Fords, N.J./Woodbridge) and Chris Rosario (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) broke up the no-hitter late in the game while Dom Yarson (Ewing, N.J./Ewing) (3-3) tallied four strikeouts in the loss. TCNJ (19-10, 8-2) used 18 hits and two home runs to pick up the 12-0 win in game two. Lagraveni paced the Lions with four hits and 2 RBI. On the bump, Malouf (4-1) hurled a complete game with seven strikeouts.

The Lions scored the lone run across the opening four innings via a sacrifice fly. The game unraveled for the Gothic Knights in the sixth when TCNJ plated eight runs behind eight hits. In the bottom of the frame, Rosario ended the no-hitter with a single through the right side before getting picked off.

TCNJ added two more runs in the seventh and held NJCU to just one more hit as they swept the NJAC doubleheader against NJCU.
