NJCU Baseball Stumbles Against Montclair, 6-2

MONTCLAIR, N.J. - The New Jersey City University (NJCU) baseball team dropped a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game to Montclair, 6-2, on Thursday, April 17.

NJCU (10-19-1, 1-10) tallied five hits and two errors in the loss. The loss moves the Gothic Knights to 1-9 in their last 10 meetings with the Red Hawks with the previous win coming last season in a 5-4 decision. The rookie left-hander, Phil Kramer (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) (2-3) pitched six innings with five earned runs and a pair of strikeouts. Jeremy Ricourt (Perth Amboy, N.J./JFK Memorial) was one of five Gothic Knights with a base knock on the afternoon and just one of two to record an RBI. Montclair (21-11, 7-4) used seven hits to plate its six runs but also tallied two errors. Levis and Johnson paced the team with two hits and an RBI each while Haveson (3-2) struck out four in his complete game win.

A fielder's choice by Chris Rosario (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick) put the first marker on the board for the Gothic Knights in the top of the first inning. Brandon Piacenza (Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfield) was the runner who crossed home after reaching earlier on a walk. Montclair quickly leveled the playing field with an infield RBI in the bottom of the frame. Both pitchers did their job in the second inning as neither team crossed home, however, both teams plated a run in the third to keep the game even at two.

The game unraveled for the Gothic Knights in the bottom of the sixth when the Red Hawks used four singles and a walk to score four runs to take a 6-2 lead. Both offenses went dormant after that as the Gothic Knights couldn't muster a rally late to overcome their deficit.
