Career Nights by Pardasie, Casais, & Peralta Propel NJCU Past Ramapo, 3-1

MAHWAH, NJ - The Gothic Knights men's volleyball team secured the #2 seed and a bye in the Skyline Tournament after taking down Ramapo College, 3-1 (18-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-23) in the regular season finale. The win improves NJCU's record against Ramapo to 9-34 and sixth straight.

NJCU (21-8, 16-2) was led by Marcus Pardasie's (Paramus, N.J./Cresskill) career night. Pardasie tallied a career-high 34 kills, two short of tying the NJCU program record while hitting .397. Alex Casais (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) joined Pardasie in having a career night as he dished out a career-high 59 assists. The career nights didn't end there as Matt Peralta (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) joined in with a career-high 21 digs. Ramapo (18-9, 14-4) pushed NJCU to the limit and hit .228 as a team. Reece Kirchofer paced the team with 19 kills while JoJo Meyer collected 44 assists.

The Roadrunners took an early 4-0 lead to open the match, capitalizing on three NJCU attacking errors. The Gothic Knights trailed for most of the set but came within three points, 19-16, thanks to a kill by Pardasie. Ramapo closed out the opening set with a 6-2 run to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

NJCU rebounded in the second set and burst the set open with a 10-2 run led by two kills from Pardasie and De Souza. The Gothic Knights kept the Roadrunners at bay until a late rally brought them within four, 16-12. Pardasie surged for the Gothic Knights and secured four kills down the stretch to knot the match at one.

Pardasie picked up where he left off and opened the third set with four straight kills to push NJCU ahead, 4-0. NJCU held onto a small lead until Ramapo rallied back and tied the game at 12. The Roadrunners flipped the script and took the lead, 22-19. Staring down a three-point deficit, the Gothic Knights ripped off a 6-0 run led by Peralta and Pardasie.

The final set was a back-and-forth affair until the Gothic Knights grabbed hold of the lead via a 5-0 run to take an 18-13 lead. Ramapo clawed back and cut it down to one, 23-22, but Peralta closed the match out with two kills to secure the bye in the Skyline Tournament.

FROM HEAD COACH CARLO EDRA
"Tonight was a gritty win against a big rival of ours. This gives us a first-round bye in the conference playoffs and home-court advantage in the semifinal. We needed this win tonight, especially this late in the season."
