PITMAN, N.J. – For the first time in nearly a decade, the New Jersey City University (NJCU) softball program has earned postseason recognition from the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). Freshman
Meaghan Doyle (Hardwick, Mass./Quabbin Regional) and senior
Abby Castro (Clifton, N.J./Passaic County Tech) were named to the 2025 NJAC All-Conference teams, marking a major milestone for the Gothic Knights. Doyle was selected to the All-NJAC First Team, while Castro earned a spot on the Second Team. This marks the first time since 2016 that any NJCU softball player has been named all-conference, and the first First Team selection since 2012.
Doyle's first-year campaign was nothing short of spectacular. The utility player emerged as one of the top offensive performers in the conference. She finished the regular season ranked among the top-10 in seven different statistical categories across the NJAC. Doyle posted a .422 batting average, which ranked fourth in the league, and a .624 slugging percentage, placing her fifth. Her .458 on-base percentage was good for ninth, while her combined on-base plus slugging (OPS) of 1.082 was fifth-best in the NJAC. She also ranked sixth in total hits (46) and 10th in home runs, becoming a constant threat at the plate.
Beyond her conference-wide rankings, Doyle led NJCU in nearly every offensive category. She paced the team in batting average, slugging percentage, runs scored (31), hits, home runs, total bases (72), stolen bases (10), and sacrifice flies (2). Her First Team selection makes her the first NJCU freshman to earn that honor since Marissa Bariso in 2011, and the first player overall to make the First Team since Megan Ginter and Rebecca Satz in 2012.
Senior
Abby Castro (Clifton, N.J./Passaic County Tech) was also recognized for her strong season, being named to the All-NJAC Second Team. A veteran presence and team leader, Castro ranked among the conference's top-10 in batting average (.387, ninth), hits (43, 10th), and doubles (12, ninth). She also led the Gothic Knights in at-bats (117), doubles, games played (38), and games started (37). A highlight of her season came on April 10 against William Paterson, where she recorded her 100th career hit.
