Arias Martinez Scores a Trio in 6-0 Win Against Lehman

BRONX, NY | The New Jersey City University (NJCU) women's soccer team dominated from start to finish in a 6-0 road victory over Lehman College on Saturday afternoon at South Field.

NJCU (5-2) fired 38 total shots, including 21 on goal, while limiting Lehman (0-3) to just one shot the entire match. Gineth Martinez  delivered a hattrick with three goals, including the game-winner on a penalty in the 27th minute. Gabriella Cardona (Elizabeth, N.J./Alexander Hamilton), Aubrey Gulbin (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood), and Sarah Reyes (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) each added tallies for the Gothic Knights.

Martinez opened the scoring at 26:49 with a penalty kick after a Lehman foul in the box. She struck again just seven minutes later, finishing from close range in the 34th minute to give NJCU a 2-0 advantage at the break.

The Gothic Knights wasted no time extending their lead in the second half. Cardona netted her third goal of the season in the 52nd minute off an assist from Reyes. Gulbin followed with her first career goal just four minutes later to make it 4-0.

Martinez capped her hattrick in the 63rd minute, before Reyes added a goal of her own in the 65th to complete NJCU's scoring.

Defensively, the Gothic Knights held Lehman without a shot on goal, splitting the shutout between goalkeepers Jessica Martin (Union, N.J./David Brearley), who played the first half, and Lorraine Valenzuela (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne), who closed out the final 45 minutes. Lehman keeper Katelyn Rice finished with 15 saves on 21 shots faced.
