September 22, 2025

PITMAN, N.J. — For Week 4 of the 2025 season (Sept. 15-21), New Jersey City University's Dom Celi Jr. (Newton, N.J./Newton) and Gineth Arias Martinez (Soacha Cundinamarca, Colombia/Institución Educativa Leon XII) have been honored as the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Players of the Week for Men's Soccer and Women's Soccer, respectively. This marks the first NJAC weekly award for both Gothic Knights.

The Men's Soccer team posted a strong 2-0-1 record during the week, improving their overall season mark to 3-4-2. They recorded victories over John Jay (3-0) and Medgar Evers (9-0), followed by a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Lehman. Sophomore Dom Celi Jr. (Newton, N.J./Newton) made a significant impact off the bench, playing a total of 78 minutes across the three games. During that time, he tallied three goals and one assist, showcasing his scoring prowess by converting three of the four shots he took.

Celi Jr. notched his first goals and assists of the season this week, bringing his collegiate career totals to four goals and two assists. Against John Jay, he played briefly—just three minutes—but managed to record one shot. In the critical matchup against Lehman, Celi Jr. contributed 41 minutes of solid play and assisted on the game-tying goal, helping preserve the draw. However, his most remarkable performance came against Medgar Evers, where in just 28 minutes, he scored a hat trick, finding the back of the net on all three shots he attempted and adding an assist. This hat trick was a career first for the sophomore, and he currently leads the team with eight points on three goals and two assists.

On the women's side, the NJCU Women's Soccer team improved to 5-2 on the season, dominating Lehman with a resounding 6-0 victory during Week 4. Off the bench, Gineth Arias Martinez (Soacha Cundinamarca, Colombia/Institución Educativa Leon XII) was the standout performer, playing only 44 minutes but making an unforgettable impact by scoring three goals—her first career hat trick. She fired six shots overall, four of which were on target.

Arias Martinez ranks second on the team with six points this season, all coming from her three goals, and now holds six career goals and one assist. Within the NJAC conference, she ranks fifth in points per game, averaging 1.50, and is sixth in game-winning goals per contest, averaging 0.25.

Looking ahead, the Men's Soccer team will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 24, traveling to Abington, Pennsylvania, to face Penn State-Abington at 2:00 p.m.
The Women's Soccer team will play a non-conference match on Tuesday, Sept. 23, heading to Hackettstown, New Jersey, to take on Centenary at 4:00 p.m.
