Former NJCU Star Denzel Banks Signs Professional Contract with Iguanas Vallarta in Mexico

JERSEY CITY, NJ | New Jersey City University men's basketball standout Denzel Banks has officially signed his first professional contract with Iguanas Vallarta, a professional basketball club based in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Banks, a four-year member of the Gothic Knights from 2018–2021, becomes the latest NJCU men's basketball alum to extend his career overseas. Known for his scoring ability and all-around versatility, the 6-2 guard was a cornerstone of the program during his time in Jersey City.

A Newark, NJ native, Banks finished his career with more than 1,200 career points and was a four-time All-New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) honoree. He helped lead the Gothic Knights to multiple NJAC Tournament appearances and an NJAC Championship in 2021 while averaging 10.8 points per game. For his career, Banks averaged 13.6 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. 

The Iguanas Vallarta compete in the Liga de Baloncesto Profesional (LBP), one of Mexico's premier professional basketball leagues known for its competitive level of play and passionate fan base. Banks' signing adds to a growing list of NJCU alumni continuing their playing careers internationally.
