STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The New Jersey City University (NJCU) track & field team competed at the NYC Gotham Cup on Friday, January 16, at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex, turning in several solid performances across the meet.
On the women's side, senior Raven Orange (Carteret, N.J./Carteret) made her collegiate debut in the 400-meter dash, finishing 15th out of 47 runners with a time of 1:01.95. Orange also competed in the 200 meters, placing 24th among 76 competitors after clocking 26.68. Senior Lucy Pelaez (Jersey City, N.J./Snyder) represented NJCU in the shot put, recording a throw of 7.42 meters to earn a 37th-place finish.
From the men's squad, freshman Nasir Peele (Hillside, N.J./Penns Grove) made his collegiate debut in the 60-meter dash, crossing the line in 8.05 seconds to place 35th. In the 400 meters, senior Isaiah Ramirez (Edison, N.J./John P. Stevens) led the way with an 18th-place finish and a time of 51.42, while freshman Ariel Tepox-Carino (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) placed 35th in his collegiate debut with a time of 53.44.
Freshman Danny Wilson (Jersey City, N.J./Ferris) competed in the mile run, posting a personal-best time of 5:32.70 to finish 42nd. In the 800 meters, sophomore Goncalo Carvalho (Newark, N.J./East Side) secured a 23rd-place finish with a time of 2:11.43.
NJCU had three freshmen compete in the 200-meter dash. David Dewberry (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) paced the group with a time of 24.40, finishing 49th. Thad Liddell followed in 57th place, clocking 24.86 in his collegiate debut, while Dequan Brown rounded out the field for the Gothic Knights with a 25.53 finish for 60th place.
Dewberry also impressed in the field events, placing 22nd in the long jump with a mark of 6.14 meters and finishing 11th in the triple jump after recording a personal-best leap of 12.78 meters. His 11th-place finish ranks ninth in program history. Freshman Johnair Gonzalez (Jersey City, N.J./William L. Dickinson) competed in the long jump as well, earning 26th place with a personal-best mark of 5.84 meters.

The Gothic Knights return to action on Saturday, January 24, at Wesleyan University. Competition is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
