JERSEY CITY, N.J. | New Jersey City University (NJCU) has appointed Jeffrey L. Jordan, M.S.Ed., as Director of Athletics (pro tem; transition leadership role), effective immediately.
Jordan was appointed to guide NJCU Athletics through its merger with Kean University and the formation of Kean–Jersey City, effective July 1, 2026. In this executive capacity, he oversees all athletics operations, ensures the academic and competitive continuity of student-athletes, manages compliance and transfer governance processes, and stewards the historic conclusion of NJCU Athletics.
A proud alumnus, former student-athlete, and NJCU Athletics Hall of Fame inductee (Class of 2020), Jordan brings institutional legacy and executive transition leadership to this transformational moment.
Jordan previously served NJCU Athletics in senior leadership roles overseeing external operations, university development, revenue generation, branding, and community engagement. His appointment reflects a steady and student-centered approach as the University concludes its intercollegiate athletics chapter.
"It is a bittersweet and deeply humbling honor to serve in this role," Jordan said. "As an alumnus, former student-athlete, Hall of Famer, contributor, and lifelong Gothic Knight, NJCU Athletics is woven into my identity. To help guide this department through its final chapter is both a responsibility and a privilege I do not take lightly."
Commitment to Student-Athletes
Jordan's immediate focus centers on the 244 student-athletes competing in NJCU's final semester of intercollegiate athletics. The department will implement individualized transition planning to ensure each student-athlete has a clearly defined pathway — whether completing their degree at NJCU, transferring to continue their athletic career, or pursuing postgraduate and professional opportunities.
"Our student-athletes deserve clarity, advocacy, and individualized support," Jordan said. "Every Gothic Knight will have a thoughtful transition plan that honors their commitment to NJCU and positions them for continued success — academically, athletically, and personally."
Support initiatives will include:
Stewarding the Transition to Kean–Jersey City
Jordan will also oversee the athletics component of NJCU's institutional merger with Kean University. The merger will establish Kean–Jersey City, marking a new chapter in public higher education in Hudson County.
In collaboration with University leadership, Jordan will ensure NJCU Athletics concludes with integrity, historical preservation, and celebration of the legacy built by generations of Gothic Knights.
"We will close this chapter with dignity, excellence, and gratitude," Jordan said. "Our responsibility is to honor the championships, friendships, resilience, and pride that define NJCU Athletics while supporting our students through change and helping usher in a new institutional reality."
Honoring a Legacy
Since its founding, NJCU Athletics has been a cornerstone of campus identity and community pride in Jersey City. Under Jordan's transition leadership, the department will commemorate its history through storytelling initiatives, alumni engagement, and archival preservation to ensure the Gothic Knight legacy endures.
"This moment calls for leadership rooted in service," Jordan said. "We are here to finish strong, support our student-athletes fully, and honor every individual who has worn the Gothic Knight uniform."
