Women’s Wrestling Finishes 2-1 at Garden State Collegiate Duals; Prepares for Regionals at Elmira

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The New Jersey City University (NJCU) women's wrestling team competed at the second-annual Garden State Collegiate Duals, hosted this year by Centenary University. The 2024-25 champions finished 2-1 on the day, defeating Centenary (45-5) and Kean University (44-5), but fell to the 2025-26 champions, Felician University (30-18).

The Gothic Knights (6-2) opened against Felician (10-5). NJCU dropped the 103- and 110-pound bouts, though freshman Aracelli Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y./Harry S. Truman) (12-12) earned one team point at 103 pounds (9-1). Sophomore Hailey Beck (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape Regional) (9-10) cut the deficit to 9-6 with a pin at 117 pounds, and sophomore Nura Kojic (20-11) kept the momentum with a 9-7 decision at 124 pounds (10-9).

The Falcons claimed the 131- and 138-pound matchups via forfeit and pin to extend their lead to 20-9. At 145 pounds, junior Gabrielle Miller (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) (10-4) delivered a 12-second pin, and rookie Tehana Savory (Queens, N.Y./Brooklyn Technical) (17-9) followed with an 11-0 technical fall in 4:09 at 160 pounds (20-18). Felician secured the final two bouts with pins to close out the 30-18 victory. The Falcons also defeated Centenary (44-0) and Kean (49-1) to claim the team title.

Against Kean (1-8), the Gothic Knights surged early with pins from Rodriguez (1:31), Beck (2:30), and Kojic (2:01) at 103, 117, and 124 pounds, respectively. Senior Dyanne Pelaez (5-9) added five team points via forfeit at 110 pounds, giving NJCU a 20-0 advantage after 124 pounds.

Kean scored its lone points with a pin at 131 pounds. Freshman Natalie Lozano (Bronx, N.Y./Herbert H. Lehman) (9-11) and Miller added forfeits at 138 and 145 pounds (30-5). Savory earned a 10-0 technical fall in 1:44 at 160 pounds, and junior Fabiana Josa (Southampton, Pa./International Christian School) (16-15) secured a pin in 2:03 at 180 pounds (39-5). Freshman Izabella Luna (Belleville, N.J./Belleville) (6-8) completed the scoring with a forfeit as NJCU rolled to a 44-5 victory.

In their final match of the day, NJCU defeated Centenary (3-6), 45-5. Rodriguez notched her second pin of the day in just 22 seconds, while Pelaez again benefited from a forfeit. Beck extended the lead to 15-0 with a 1:23 pin at 117 pounds, and Kojic won at 124 pounds due to injury (20-0).

The Cyclones scored with a pin at 131 pounds but were shut out the rest of the way. Lozano (138) and Miller (145) won via forfeit and injury default, respectively (30-5). Additional injury defaults at 160 and 207 pounds, along with a pin by Josa at 180 pounds, sealed the 45-5 final.

The Gothic Knights now prepare for the 2026 National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Regionals. As members of Region I, NJCU will travel to Elmira College on Feb. 21-22 to compete at the LECOM Event Center. Competition is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
