CAMDEN, N.J. – The New Jersey City University women's basketball team closed out its 2025-26 campaign with an 86-59 setback to Rutgers University–Camden on the road at the Athletic and Fitness Center. With the win, Rutgers-Camden (13-12, 10-8 NJAC) secured the No. 6 seed in the upcoming New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament, while NJCU finishes the season at 9-16 overall and 7-11 in conference play.
The Scarlet Raptors set the tone early and never looked back, using a decisive first-half surge to build a comfortable cushion. After holding a slim 6-4 lead midway through the opening quarter, Rutgers-Camden rattled off a 13-0 run to stretch the advantage to 19-4. NJCU managed just six points in the period and trailed by double digits after one.
Rutgers-Camden continued to apply pressure in the second quarter, opening with a 7-0 burst to extend the margin to 28-6. Despite a spark from sophomore Meghan Gentile (Roseland, N.J./Immaculate Conception), who scored nine second-quarter points, the Gothic Knights were unable to chip away significantly at the deficit. The Scarlet Raptors shot 48.3 percent (14-for-29) in the first half and carried a 42-22 lead into the break.
NJCU showed more balance offensively in the third quarter, with six different players contributing points. However, Rutgers-Camden maintained control and outscored the Gothic Knights 21-16 in the frame to take a 63-40 lead into the final period.
The teams played nearly even in the fourth quarter, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome. Junior Na'tori Postell (Passaic, N.J./Passaic Arts & Science Charter) provided a strong finish, pouring in 12 of her team-high 19 points in the final stanza. She also added five rebounds and two steals. Gentile finished with 16 points and a team-best eight rebounds, while senior Bailey Cassell (Palmdale, Calif./Pete Knight) contributed three steals defensively.
As a team, NJCU shot 34.9 percent (22-for-63) from the field and 21.1 percent (4-for-19) from three-point range, while converting 73.3 percent (11-for-15) at the free-throw line. Rutgers-Camden shot 43.1 percent (28-for-65) overall and controlled key statistical categories, including points off turnovers (27-15), second-chance points (16-8), and bench scoring (25-10).
Rutgers-Camden placed four players in double figures, led by Courtney Edmundo's 25-point, 12-rebound double-double. Tamea El added 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Hope Goodwine and Zairra Galloway made key all-around contributions.
