Savory Punches Ticket to Nationals with Third-Place Finish at NCAA Region I Tournament

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The New Jersey City University women's wrestling team wrapped up competition at the NCAA Region I Tournament, hosted by Elmira College on Sunday, February 22.

Rookie Tehana Savory (Queens, N.Y./Brooklyn Technical) delivered the top performance for the Gothic Knights, earning a third-place finish at 160 pounds to qualify for nationals. Savory (21-10) secured her spot with a 6-4 decision in the third-place bout. She advances to the NCAA Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships, set for March 6-7 at Xtream Arena in Coralsville, Iowa.

Juniors Gabrielle Miller (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) (12-6) and Fabiana Josa (Southampton, Pa./International Christian School) (19-17) each competed in third-place matches at 145 and 180 pounds, respectively. Miller dropped a 7-2 decision, while Josa was pinned, with both wrestlers finishing fourth in their weight classes.

Senior Dyanne Pelaez-Ordonez (Fords, N.J./Woodbridge) (8-12) claimed fifth place at 110 pounds with a 6-1 decision. Freshman Izabella Luna (Belleville, N.J./Belleville) (8-11) rounded out NJCU's results with a sixth-place finish at 207 pounds after falling in her final match.

Savory will represent NJCU on the national stage in Iowa next month.
