Terracciano, Torre Qualify for Nationals with Podium Finishes

ITHACA, N.Y. – Sophomore Dominic Terracciano (Keansburg, N.J./Keansburg) and senior Lucas Torre (Point Pleasant, N.J./Brick Memorial) punched their tickets to the national stage after earning third-place finishes at the NCAA Division III Region II Tournament, hosted by Ithaca College on Saturday, February 28.

With their podium finishes, Terracciano (125 lbs) and Torre (133 lbs) advance to the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships. They become the second and third Gothic Knights to qualify for nationals in program history, joining Jeff Johnson (157 lbs) from 2020-21. As a team, NJCU totaled 56.5 points to place 13th out of 20 teams in Region II.

Terracciano (24-7) fell in the semifinals by a 5-2 decision but responded with an impressive run through the consolation bracket. He secured a fall in 5:35 in the consolation semifinals before sealing third place with a dominant 31-second pin in the third-place bout.

Torre (34-6) also dropped a tightly contested semifinal match in overtime, 4-1. He rebounded with an 11-1 major decision in the consolation semifinals and captured third place at 133 pounds with a 9-8 victory in the first tiebreaker period.

Senior Zack Vera (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) (31-8) earned a seventh-place finish at 149 pounds. After an 8-7 loss in the fifth round of consolations, he secured seventh via forfeit in the placement match.

UP NEXT:
Terracciano and Torre will compete at the Alliant Energy PowerHouse in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on March 13-14 at the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships. Full qualifiers will be announced on Monday, March 2, with brackets set to be released Friday, March 6.
