MANHEIM, PA | The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) has announced the NCAA Women's Scholar All-American awards on Friday. New Jersey City University (NJCU) had Tehana Savory (Queens, N.Y./Brooklyn Technical) and Gabrielle Miller (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) honored by the NWCA.
The two honorees bring NJCU's Scholar All-American total to 13 in the last six seasons.
A total of 540 student-athletes representing 92 institutions were recognized for their academic success in the classroom while competing throughout the season.
The scholar awards are presented following the conclusion of the NCAAÂ Women's Championships, which took place on March 6-7.
Savory, an Exercise Science major, qualified for the inaugural NCAA Women's Wrestling Championships at XTream Arena. Savory concluded an impressive rookie campaign with a 21-12 overall record. During the season, she recorded 11 victories by pin, three wins by technical superiority (VSU), and one victory by points (VPO1). Her 21 wins are the most by a 160-pound wrestler in program history, further cementing her place in NJCU's record books.
Miller, an Elementary Education major, finished her junior season with a 12-6 record. At Regionals, Miller finished fourth for the Gothic Knights.
