Gentile Earns All-Met Honorable Mention After Breakout Sophomore Season

April 13, 2026

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Sophomore guard Meghan Gentile (Roseland, N.J./Immaculate Conception) of New Jersey City University earned All-Met Division III women's basketball honorable mention honors, the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association announced Monday, April 13.

The All-Met distinction spans 35 institutions and more than 500 student-athletes across the region, making it one of the most competitive postseason recognitions in Division III. This year's honorees will be recognized April 23 at the 93rd annual Haggerty Awards dinner in Tarrytown, New York, the nation's longest-running media-administered college basketball awards program.

Gentile, a Roselle, New Jersey, native, delivered a standout sophomore campaign while leading the Gothic Knights in nearly every major statistical category. She finished with a team-high 462 points and averaged 20.1 points per game, a mark that led the New Jersey Athletic Conference. She also paced the conference in three-point field goals per game (3.1) and free-throw percentage (.909), while ranking second in minutes played at 35.7 per game.

A high-usage perimeter scorer, Gentile attempted 19 field goals per game and shot 32.9 percent from three-point range, converting 72 of 219 attempts. She added 4.9 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 1.2 assists per game, finishing among the conference leaders in multiple categories, including fifth in field-goal percentage (.378).

Gentile's performance helped guide NJCU to a 9-16 overall record and a 7-11 mark in conference play. Despite the team's record, she emerged as one of the NJAC's most productive guards, shouldering a significant scoring load while maintaining efficiency at the free-throw line and from beyond the arc.

In addition to her All-Met recognition, Gentile earned D3hoops.com All-Region IV third team honors and was selected to the All-NJAC second team. She also received NJAC Player of the Week honors for the week of Dec. 8-14, along with MBWA Division II/III honorable mention player of the week recognition for the same period.

New York University's Caroline Peper was named All-Met Player of the Year, while NYU head coach Meg Barber earned Coach of the Year honors.
