JERSEY CITY, N.J. — New Jersey City University closed out its 2026 baseball season on Senior Day with a 5–3 loss to Saint Elizabeth University at the Thomas M. Gerrity Athletic Complex. Prior to the game, the program honored seniors Andre Dean (Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfield), Nick Vaughn (Ocean Township, N.J./Ocean Township), and Jeffrey Osborne (Spotswood, N.J./Spotswood).
The Gothic Knights (11-27-1) were narrowly outplayed by the Eagles (6-25), who held a 9–8 edge in hits. NJCU forced four Saint Elizabeth errors while committing two of their own.
Daniel Kapsch (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) led NJCU at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Travis Evernham (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) contributed an RBI and scored a run, while Ray Gelok (Clifton, N.J./Passaic Tech) crossed the plate twice and added a double. The team also stole three bases, finishing the season with a program-record 131 stolen bases.
On the mound, Jeffrey Osborne (Spotswood, N.J./Spotswood) (1-1) started and pitched 4.2 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out two. Andre Dean (Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfield) followed with a strong relief appearance, throwing four innings with four strikeouts and surrendering just one run on two hits. Phil Kramer (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) came in to face the final two batters.
For Saint Elizabeth, Alipio Figueroa (1-2) earned the win, delivering seven innings while allowing two earned runs on eight hits and striking out seven. Quentin Torres (S, 1) secured the save, finishing the game without allowing a hit.
Saint Elizabeth was led by Owen Murphy, who went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, as the Eagles totaled two doubles, two home runs, and two stolen bases.
The Eagles took control early, scoring three runs in the second inning on a string of four consecutive hits. NJCU responded in the third when Gelok doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Evernham to cut the deficit to 3–1.
Saint Elizabeth extended its lead with solo home runs in both the fourth and fifth innings, pushing the score to 5–1. NJCU answered in the bottom of the fifth when Gelok reached on an error, stole second, and came home on a Kapsch single.
After holding the Eagles scoreless over the next two innings, NJCU made one final push in the seventh. Evernham singled, stole second, and advanced to third on a throwing error before Kapsch delivered again with an RBI single. The rally stopped there, as Saint Elizabeth held on for the 5–3 victory.
