Biography

Alvarez on Montalbano:  “Monty” is a key transfer this year from a great program in Keystone which reached the NCAA regional last year.  He was 3-1 for the Giants and logged the fifth most innings at 36.1 for them last year.  He is a junior who without doubt will be one of our top 2 starters.  His ability to control the lower half of the strike zone is unreal.  He will produce outs and can log long innings as long as our defense does their job.  His work ethic is great and his teammates love when he pitches.”

2009 Highlights: (2/21 at Farmingdale State College): Tossed 5.2 innings of two-hit ball to earn the victory...Allowed no earned runs with four strikeouts and a walk, throwing over 80 pitches...(3/5 vs. Gwynedd-Mercy College): Struck out eight and did not allow an earned run in a complete-game performance...Improved to 2-0, did not walk a batter and allowed just eight hits...(3/10 vs. Drew University at Russ Matt College Invitational): Pinch-hit in the ninth, uncorked a single and eventually scored on Fleischman's triple...(3/11 vs. St. John Fisher at the Russ Matt College Invitational): Suffered his first loss...In 3.2 innings, he allowed six earned runs and eight hits with two strikeouts and two walks...(3/28 vs. Richard Stockton College): Pitched well enough to win, allowing just three runs and six hits with three strikeouts and four walks in 6.0 innings, but received a no-decision...(4/18 vs. Ramapo College):  Took the loss for the Knights, allowing six runs on 10 hits in 3.0 innings with three strikeouts and one walk...(4/23 vs. Rutgers-Newark):  Took the loss...Other than the third inning when he walked three batters, his outing was good...In 6.0 innings, he allowed only five hits, on six earned runs with four strikeouts and three walks...

Keystone College: Played two seasons for the Giants in 2007 and 2008 before transferring to NJCU...

High School: A June 2006 graduate of Bishop George Ahr High School in Edison, NJ...Played four years of baseball, including two on varsity for Coach Scott Runkel...Was a member of the Trojans 2006 Parochial A State Sectional championship team...Played with the Central Jersey Reds for Coach Nate Frantz...Will face former teammate Lee Cavico when playing Kean University and former teammate Michael Hanley of Keystone College...
