For starters: One of the top pitchers in the rotation over the last two years, he emerged as a dependable starter during a solid sophomore season…The older brother of sophomore catcher Aqeel Shahid...Has a career 8-6 record with a 4.81 ERA…Has made 18 appearances over the last two years, with 15 starts…Has produced four complete games and two shutouts, with one save in 95.1 innings…He has 66 strikeouts and 75 walks with 51 earned runs (73 total) and 83 hits against in his career…Became the first NJCU pitcher on record selected as the New Jersey Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week…His two shutouts are tied for the NJCU career mark…Has three career pickoffs, tied for fifth on the career charts…Has posted the second and third lowest opponent batting averages since 2000, with a .236 rate in 2005 and .237 in 2006…Has tossed three career two-hitters.

2005: Had a solid rookie campaign, going 4-2 with one save and a 5.83 ERA in nine games (six starts)...In 41.2 innings, struck out 37 batters and walked 24…Allowed 27 earned runs (38 total) and 38 hits…Gave up 11 extra base hits, mostly doubles (8)…Hit 11 batters…Settled down in mid-March, and did not allow more than four hits in any of his final six appearances of the season, including five starts…Had one one-hitter, one two-hitter and three four-hitters in starting roles…Did not make an error in nine fielding chances…Twice struck out six in a game…Opposing batters hit .236 (38-161)…Baffled left-handed batters to a tune of .077 (2-for-26)…When the bases were empty, kept them that way, with a .190 opposing average (15-79)…Earned his first career win on March 19 at Lincoln University, allowing one earned run and four hits (three singles) with six K’s…Tossed a one-hitter on May 3 in a 3-0 win that helped NJCU clinch the No. 1 seed in the CUNYAC Tournament…Allowed a lone first-inning single before settling down to pitch a gem…Earned his first career save on May 7 as NJCU defeated John Jay College in the CUNYAC semifinals.
High School: A June 18, 2004 graduate of Harrison High School with a 3.33 GPA…Played four years of varsity baseball for the Blue Tide, for coaches Michael Landy and Paul Oecker…As a junior in 2003, earned Honorable Mention All-Bergen County Scholastic League National honors as a pitcher…Scored Honorable-Mention All-BCSL National distinction as an outfielder his senior year…Played in the 2002 state tournament against Westwood and Lodi…Competed again in the states in 2004, facing West Essex on May 21, and Parsippany on May 25…As a junior, hurled a no-hitter against the Academy of Saint Aloysius (Jersey City), one year after he broke his ankle against the same school as a sophomore…Played in the Senior Babe Ruth League all-star game…Was a three-year varsity runner for the Harrison cross-country team, competing for coaches Jim Kasica and Carol Kubrak…On October 27, 2001, a member of the 11th place Harrison team at the NJSIAA/Star-Ledger North I Section Cross-Country Championships…Won a medal during a cross-country race at Branch Brook Park in Newark as a senior…Also played one year of basketball (non-varsity) at Harrison for Mike Landy.
