2013-14 Season Highlights: (11/19 vs. John Jay): Chipped in seven rebounds and three assists. (11/23 @ Ramapo): Registered a career-high 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting in 18 minutes before fouling out. (11/26 vs. Rutgers-Newark): Registered seven defensive rebounds in 17 minutes.(1/8 vs Montclair): converted a three-point to make it a one-point game (62-61) with 4:24 to play.(1/25 vs. Rowan): produced seven rebounds and four blocks...

2012-13 Season Highlights: (11/16 vs. St. Joseph's (LI) @ Nazareth College Tournament): Delivered eight points (3-4 FG) in 14 minutes of play. (1/3 vs. Moravian @ 35th Annual Greyhound Starters Classic): Added a career best seven boards.(1/22 vs. Ramapo): notched eight points (4-7 FG), five rebounds and two blocks...knocked down three consecutive jumpers...a successful layup gave NJCU its largest lead of the second half...(1/29 vs. Rutgers-Newark): Had five blocks... (2/13 vs. Rutgers-Camden): Shot a flawless 4-for-4 from the floor with eight points and seven rebounds (six defensive).

Coach Brown on James: “He’s going to be a great reserve for us. He was one of the first guys I recruited and finally decided on us in late July. He’s a lefty; a really good defender. Not really a scorer but can become a better scorer. He’s not really a jump shooter; he’s a guy who plays with his back to the basket but he’s an excellent defender with long arms and a good shot blocker also.”
 
High School:  A June 2012 graduate of Bloomfield Tech in Bloomfield, NJ, he played four seasons for the Spartans from 2008-12 for coaches Derrick Bobbitt and Pete Vasil…He earned MVP honors of a Christmas tournament in 2011…Selected by NJ.com to the 2011  Essex County All-Windex Team for his rebounding abilities…As a senior in 2011-12, Bloomfield Tech was 17-12 and ranked 10th in the state among Group 1 schools and a made a quarterfinals appearance in both the Essex County and North Jersey, Section 2, Group 1 tournaments…As a senior, he scored 173 points with 234 rebounds and 65 blocks in 27 games, averaging 8.7 rebounds, 6.4 points and 2.5 blocks per contest.
 
Personal: Faraji Nafiz James…Born July 8, 1994 in Livingston, NJ…Nickname is ‘Raji’…Left-handed…Parents are Mary Hammond and Carl James…Guardian is Kenneth Hammond…Has four siblings—a brother, Narique, and sisters Nakhya, Sanaa and Annabella…His eldest brother, Omar, died on September 11, 2005 at the age of 21…James has worn the #21 as long as he has been playing basketball as a tribute to his late brother…Major at NJCU is undeclared…He aspires to pursue a career in business management or become a middle school teacher.

‘My coach keeps it real and is fair. He says things straight up and doesn’t sugar coat anything.’

Describing himself:

“I’m in my eyes, the ‘X’ factor…the man who will do whatever needs to be done to win the game. If my coach said I need you to go in and just focus on defense or any loose balls, dive on the floor and get them, I will do that.’
