Biography

For starters: A southpaw who will pitch as a starter or out of the bullpen as a rookie…Has already made his mark on NJCU’s community outreach program before ever stepping on the field for NJCU…During November and December 2006, Gomez dressed as Elmo during three community service events as part of the program “6 Days of Happiness for New Jersey Hospitals and Rehabilitation Centers.”
Heaton on Gomez: “A lefty who has good stuff.  He has a low 80’s fastball with great tail and downward action.  He is a promising young arm.  We definitely expect him to get innings this year, either in the pen or as a spot-starter.”
High School: A June 6, 2006 graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Jersey City, NJ…Played four seasons of varsity baseball for the Ramblers under Coach Pat LaGuerre…Played in the county and state semifinals with St. Mary’s as a freshman and sophomore…Ramblers were the No. 2 seed in the 2004 Parochial North B state tournament, but after a first round bye, were upset, 10-4, by No. 7 seeded Paterson Catholic….High school teammate of David Suro for one season.

2007 Highlights:  (03/27 vs. College of Mount Saint Vincent): Earned the win in relief—the first victory of his career (1-1)—by tossing 3.1 innings of no-hit baseball. He did not allow a run, fanned three, and walked two...(03/30 at Rutgers-Newark): Pitched well in an emergency relief role, but suffered the hard-luck loss. In 4.0 innings, he allowed five runs (four earned) against only three hits, while striking out five and walking two. He left the game in the bottom of the eighth leading 6-5, but with the bases loaded, and suffered the loss (1-2) when the bullpen couldn’t close the door...(04/09 vs. United States Merchant Marines Academy): Evened his record at 2-2 overall. In five innings, he allowed just three earned runs and four hits, with a walk and strikeout...(04/19 vs. Ramapo College): Pitched 2/3 of an inning, not allowing a hit with three walks...
