1982-1986
Steve Wilder carved out a place in New Jersey City University basketball history that very few have been able to duplicate. He ranks third in career free throws made (450), eighth in career rebounding (730), and is tied for fourth in career games played (110). He was a Basketball Times First-Team All-American selection, Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Metro NY/NJ Player-of-the_Year and New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Co-Player-of-the Year.
In 1986. Wilder also earned First-Team All-NJAC, First -Team ECAC Metro NY/NJ and First-Team New Jersey College Basketball Writers Association honors in both 1985 and 1986. He played on teams that compiled a 76-38 record during his four years and was a member of the Jersey City State 1985-86 Final Four Team. Wilder was voted the Most Valuable Player of the NCAA Division III South Atlantic Regional Tournament in 1986.
“The one thing I will always remember about Steve is his all-around basketball ability,” said coach Charles Brown. “He was an excellent player in every facet of the game and was the consummate team player. Steve sacrificed his game to play small forward for us and led us to the Final Four. He was truly a great player.”
Wilder is employed by the Boston Coach and Limousine Company and resides in his hometown of Linden.
