2006: Played in 33 of 40 games, with 26 starts…Batted .246 (17-69), with one double, five RBIs and eight runs scored…Tied for second on the team with 21 walks…Struck out 15 times…Was 1-for-1 in steal opportunities…His .422 on-base percentage was fifth on NJCU…Had a .429 average (9-21) with two outs…Had a .512 success rate in advancing runners (21-41)…Had a .900 fielding percentage with six errors in 60 chances, 30 putouts and 24 assists (fifth on team)…Fielded two double plays…Had five multiple-hit games…Started 12 games at third, three at first base and 11 as designated hitter…NJCU was 8-4 with him starting at third…Batted fifth in 10 games…Also hit in the second, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth spots.
2005: Selected Second-Team All-Association of Division III Independents at third base…Concluded rookie season with an active 15-game hitting streak, which he will attempt to lengthen in 2006…Was solid all season at third base, but began to truly gain attention in the second half of the season…Batted .394 (39-99) with 33 runs, 52 total bases, seven doubles, two homeruns, and 26 RBIs, while playing in all 33 games (31 starts). He posted a .525 slugging and .496 on-base percentage, walked 18 times, and was 5-for-5 in steals…Led the team in on-base percentage, tied for second in walks, listed third in average and runs, and tied for third in doubles… Additionally, he ranked fifth in hits, RBIs, at-bats, tied for fifth in homeruns, and was sixth in total bases, and steals (tied)…Had 10 multiple-hit games, including four with at least three…His 15-game hitting streak tied Rob Sumner for the longest of the season…Collected eight multi-RBI contests…Had 16 errors in 103 chances at third…Also appeared in two games in relief with a perfect 0.00 ERA…In 2.0 innings, fanned two, walked one, and did not allow a hit or run…Hit .750 (9-12) as a leadoff hitter and .611 (11-18) with a runner on third and less than two outs…Hit left-handed pitching hard (6-12, .500)…Batted .438 with the bases empty (14-32) and .429 with the bases loaded (3-7)…Scored five runs and notched three RBIs in NJCU’s win over City College of New York on April 17…Went 4-for-4 against John Jay College in a 13-0 win on May 1…Belted a two-run homerun in the ECAC Tournament.
High School: A June 2004 graduate of Marlboro High School in Marlboro, NJ, where he graduated with a 3.6 GPA…Played four years of baseball for the Mustangs, including two on the varsity level for coaches Robert Anderson and Bobby Jack….Also played one year of non-varsity basketball at J.P. Stevens High School as a freshman before transferring to Marlboro…In his junior season on the diamond (2003), was named Marlboro’s Most Improved Player…Team captain as a senior…Earned the Academic-Athletic Honor Award for Monmouth County…Played in the Morris County fall baseball all-star game…Received the U.S. Army/Naval Scholarship Award in 2004.
Club/Pre-High School: Played in the 2002 Morris County Fall League All-Star game…Participated in the New Jersey Babe Ruth League All-Star game in 1998…Was a member of the New Jersey Warriors, which won back-to-back AAU New Jersey state championships in 2001 and 2002 in both the 16-under and 18-under leagues…In 1998, played for the North Edison Blue Devils, which won the New Jersey Babe Ruth League 12-under state championship.
Personal: Carlos Manual Suarez…Born March 24, 1986 in Elizabeth, NJ…Nickname is “C-Los” or “C-Lo”…Parents are Josephine and Juan Suarez…Has two younger brothers, Robert, 19, and Gabriel, 18…Declared major at NJCU is Business Administration…Career ambition is to start his own business after pursuing a master’s degree at a Top 10 graduate school...Hopes to play minor league baseball…A switch hitter who throws right handed…For seventy hours per year, Suarez is a participant in a community service program where he works with special education children…His most memorable sports memory is his last year of playing baseball on the smaller fields with the North Edison Blue Devils when he was 12 years old…Lists his father, Juan, and his grandfather, as his heroes…Dedicates every baseball seasons to his grandfather, who passed away in December 2004 after a three-year battle with lung cancer…Labeled the year “a great season for a great man”…Describes himself as committed, determined and as someone who takes initiative.
