Michael J. Ingui, a former starting pitcher for NJCU from 2002-03, joins Eric Alvarez’ staff for the 2008 season as an assistant coach and third base coach. He will also serve as the club’s assistant recruiting coordinator.
A 2005 graduate of the University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration/Accounting, and a minor in sports management, Ingui returns to NJCU as a coach after teaching at the Power Pitching & Hitting School in New Brunswick, NJ where he has worked for seven years as a pitching and hitting instructor and clinician. He also worked with Alvarez as a clinical staff member at the Professional Baseball Instruction school in Upper Saddle River, NJ for five years. In 2006, he was an assistant coach at his alma mater, Lodi High School.
As a player, Ingui transferred to NJCU for the Fall 2001 semester after two years at Bergen Community College (2000-01). The 6-foot-1 right-hander pitched in 15 games over two seasons from 2002-03, winning two games and saving one, with one complete game. In 59.1 career innings for the Knights, he logged 25 strikeouts. A former collegiate teammate of Alvarez and current assistant coach Jonathan Thomas, he was one of two seniors on the hill for the Knights in 2003, when he split time between the starting rotation and bullpen, earning his only collegiate save.
His best season came in 2002 when he was primarily used as a starter. In six games (five starts), he posted both career wins and in 33.0 innings of work, tossed 15 strikeouts. He picked up his first career win for NJCU on April 7, 2002 in a 16-5 rout of Polytechnic University, when he fanned a season-high five batters in five innings. In also earned a conference victory over Richard Stockton College on April 13. In an 8-7 win over the Ospreys, he was magnificent out of the pen. In 4.0 innings, he did not allow an earned run and gave up only two hits with three strikeouts.
Ingui was a June 1999 graduate of Lodi High School, where he played his prep baseball for the Rams.
When not coaching, he is the President of the San Ciro Society in Garfield, NJ—an Italian non-profit organization that raises money for projects and charities in the local community.
Ingui is currently employed as a mortgage consultant for Synergy Financial in Fairfield, NJ.
The son of Viola and Michael Ingui, his sister Santina played women’s basketball and softball at NJCU in 2003-04. Born July 23, 1980, Ingui still resides in Lodi. He is engaged to Elyse Bizzozzaro.
