For starters: One of three capable rookie catchers who will challenge for this vacant starting position.
High School: A June 2004 graduate of Becton Regional High School in East Rutherford, NJ…Played four years of baseball, including three on the varsity level for coach Paul DeSimone…Selected Second-Team All-Bergen County Scholastic League National at catcher in 2004…Was Honorable Mention All-BCSL National in 2003 as a junior…During this career, Becton captured three consecutive North II, Group 1 state sectional championships…Becton won the 2004 title, before losing in the Group 1 state semifinals, 3-0, to eventual Group 1 champion New Milford…In the state sectional tournament his senior year, Becton, which entered the tournament as the No. 8 seed of 11, blanked No. 9 Weehawken, 7-0 (May 17), upset top-seeded Hudson County Tech, 8-1 in the quarterfinals (May 21) and ousted fourth-seeded Whippany Park, 4-1 (May 25) in the semifinals, before handling No. 7 seed Verona in the finals, 5-2 (May 28)…In a 16-0 win over Wood-Ridge on April 25, 2003, Becton won 16-0 behind three RBIs, a triple and two runs by Schanel…Also played four years of football for the Wildcats, including three on the varsity level for coach Jim Bononno…Was a Second-Team All-Conference guard in football his senior year…His senior year, Becton won the North II, Group 1 state sectional championship…As a member of  the Carlstadt/East Rutherford Wildcats, won the 1999 Meadowlands Football League Senior Division championship…Competed in one year of varsity wrestling.
