Biography

2013 Highlights: (3/9 vs. Penn State-Abington @ Russ Matt Spring Break Invitational): Added a 2-for-2 effort as a pinch hitter and designated hitter. (3/29 vs. Gwynedd-Mercy): Was 2-for-2 with NJCU's lone RBI. (4/1 vs. Drew): Added a pair of runs. (4/2 vs. FDU-Florham): Was 3-for-3. (4/6 vs. Rutgers-Newark): Batted 2-for-4 with one run in game one. In the nightcap, he was 1-for-3 with a run.

2012 Highlights: (3/7 vs. Centenary): Went 2-for-6 with two RBIs. (3/13 vs. Lesley @ Russ Matt Invitational): Produced two RBIs in the win. (3/16 vs. Framingham State @ Russ Matt Invitational): Went 2-for-2 in game one as the designated hitter. (3/20 vs. #25 Neumann): Led NJCU with three RBIs, batting 2-for-4 with one run. (3/22 vs. St. Joseph's - Brooklyn): Went 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. (3/24 vs. #27 St. Joseph's - Maine): Scored both of the NJCU runs in the loss in game one. (3/28 @ Lehman): Had an RBI.  (3/29 @ Drew): Had two hits. (4/3 @ King's): Scored twice, drove in two runs, and batted 2-for-4 with his second career double in the five spot in the lineup. 

2011 Highlights: (4/8 vs. William Paterson University):  Was 2-for-4 with a run and a double. (4/9 @ Rutgers-Camden): Went 2-for-4 with a run. (4/15 vs. Kean University): Had two RBIs and batted 2-for-4.  (5/13): Picked to the All-State Rookie Team for the 2011 New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association.

For starters: One of four 2012 team co-captains…Only sophomore among the captains…Will vie for the starting job at second base…Also runs cross country for NJCU…

High School:  A June 2009 graduate of Saint Joseph of the Palisades High School in West New York, NJ…Graduated with honors (3.5 GPA)…Played four seasons of baseball (three varsity) for the Blue Jays for Coach Anthony Torres…Also played one season of varsity football for Coach Rob Stern…A three-time All-Hudson County and three-time All-Seglio Conference selection…He was named First-Team All-Conference in 2008 (utility player) and Second-Team in 2009…led the Blue Jays to three Hudson County Seglio playoff appearances…As a senior in 2009, he batted .486 and had a .591 on-base percentage with three homeruns and 26 RBIs in 23 games…Also played baseball in the New York Independent League for the Stuy Town Turtles and AAU for the Jersey City R.B.I. in the Jackie Robinson League.
 
Personal:  Robert Roman, Jr…Born February 19, 1991 in Jersey City, NJ…Nicknames are Rob and Rome…Bats and throws right-handed…Parents are Kimberlee and Robert Roman…Has one brother, Christian (15)…Major at NJCU is National Security Studies with a minor in Criminal Justice…Career ambition is to be an FBI special agent, ICE, or a CIA agent…Describes himself as “driven, dedicated, passionate, athletic, goal-oriented, as someone who has the ability to adapt to any situation, someone who loves to learn new things, not quick to judge others, full of energy and always optimistic”…Lists his parents as his heroes…Likes to dance…Can juggle…Also has a goal to be an actor/model…Currently does charity work for the York Street Project (89 York Street, Jersey City)…The purpose of the organization is to break the cycle of poverty by simultaneously providing housing, education, and childhood development with counseling and life-skills training to more than 300 economically-disadvantaged women and children each year…While there he helps collect and wrap Christmas gifts for children and spending time with the kids…Has volunteered with the organization since 2009…At NJCU, he has been involved in several community outreach projects, including ‘Cans Across the Conference’ food drive in November of each year…Also delivered food and toys as part of NJCU’s ‘Gifts from the Heart’ program…Overcame two major personal obstacles in recent years…Family lost their apartment in a fire his senior year of high school, yet he still earned high academic honors in all semesters…As a freshman at NJCU he was diagnosed with a rare form of Meniere’s Disease—an inner ear disorder that affects balance and hearing…Went to the hospital 25 times for over a year and half because of acute attacks before having head/inner ear surgery in summer 2011 to stop the problem…Has overcome the disorder to play baseball while maintaining a high GPA as a Dean’s List student…In high school, he won a gold medal at the Garden State Karate Invitational Games (GSKIG)...Named to the Dean’s list for Fall 2011 and Spring 2012.
