Davauni Brown, `17 began his new, expanded role as Community Recreation Director at New Jersey City University in the Spring of 2020. A former men's soccer standout for the Gothic Knights from 2013-16, he has also served as an assistant coach on the men's soccer staff since the start of the 2018 campaign.
In his current role, Brown oversees
NJCU’s ComRec and several vital revenue-generating offerings, including the NJCU Summer Camp, the
Saturday Swim program and its camps and clinics. Additionally, he oversees NJCU’s community outreach initiatives and manages equipment supervisor responsibilities. Brown previously served in a similar role as Community Recreation Coordinator for more than two years and got his start working in athletics as a camp coordinator.
Brown graduated in May 2017 with a B.S. in Management and Marketing from NJCU. He was the 2016-17 recipient of The Robert L. McNulty Memorial Soccer Award — presented annually to the male or female soccer player who best exemplifies coach McNulty's qualities. He served as the Gothic Knight captain as a senior, helping NJCU set a single-season record for
most consecutive wins to start a season (7).
In his four seasons, Brown played major minutes at every field position, primarily at wing and back. He played in 69 of 74 games, including 51straight to conclude his career. He made 62 starts for the Knights, and all but one game his final three seasons and with 4,971 minutes on the field is among NJCU’s all-time leaders. Brown’s versatility allowed him to be a consistent scoring threat from the back line. He finished with 36 career points — 11 goals and 14 assists — including two game-winning goals as a senior. He was a
one-time NJCU Athlete of the Week and was named to the All-Tournament Team at the 2015 Cialella Soccer Classic at Rutgers-Camden. His best offensive season came as a senior in 2016 with 21 points, notching seven goals and seven assists. He was sixth in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) in assists, seventh in assists/game (0.37) and was among the league leaders in shots (ninth), shots/game (10th, 3.26), game-winning goals (13th), points (13th), points/game (13th, 1.11), goals (16th) and goals/game (17th, 0.37).
Brown is a 2010 graduate of Newark Tech High School where he played two seasons of varsity soccer. He was selected First-Team All-Newark and All-Conference and Second-Team All-State Sectional, helping the Terriers win their conference.
Brown, born in September of 1992, resides in Jersey City.
