Another fresh face on the New Jersey City University women’s basketball coaching staff, Nicole Skelly joined the Gothic Knight coaching staff for the 2018-19 season, her first coaching position.
Skelly played for multiple teams in the New Jersey Athletic Conference during her collegiate basketball career, starting with Kean University before moving to Rutgers-Newark to finish her career. Skelly played the 2014-15 season with the Cougars, alongside fellow NJCU women’s basketball coach, Mikeera Brown. Skelly soon transferred to Rutgers-Newark, where she appeared in 66 games for the Scarlet Knights from 2014-2017.
Skelly played her high school basketball for Immaculate Conception High School in Lodi, N.J. She was a three-time All-League Honorable Mention, making the Second-Team All-League her sophomore year. She played in the North vs. South All-Star Game, as well as county and state playoff games, falling the semi-finals her junior and senior seasons.
“Coach Nicole has a great deal of knowledge of the NJAC,” head coach Pat Devaney said. “Her father and she coached the New Jersey Celtics together, she’s from a family that eats, sleeps, and breathes basketball. Anything we need done, she just does. She’s a go-getter.”
